A facelift can improve the signs of ageing in the face and the neck and help with sagging, wrinkles, jowls and platysmal bands. Excess skin and fat is removed along with tightening underlying muscles and tissue. The procedure can also be carried out in conjunction with eyelid or eye bag surgery, brow lift or neck lift.
An incision is made within the hairline at the temples which then continues around the ear ending at the hairline behind the ear. The muscles are lifted, underlying tissue is repositioned and the excess skin is pulled up and removed. Scars will be hidden in the hairline and normal creases of the skin.
Under general anaesthetic, an incision is made within the hairline at the temples which then continues around the ear ending at the hairline behind the ear. The muscles are tightened, underlying tissue is repositioned and the excess skin is pulled up and removed.
Any invasive treatment carries its own risks and complications. Also, every procedure has limitations and the risks should be compared to the potential benefits before undergoing a surgical procedure.
Possible risks and complications include:-
Recovery time after having a facelift can vary between patients. Pain, bruising and swelling is to be expected. Initial numbness is normal and should disappear. The face will appear puffy and may feel tight. Swelling can last for several months.
Straining, bending and lifting should be avoided for the first few weeks.
The scars will be hidden in the hairline and normal creases of the skin and will, in most cases, fade and improve over time.
